Cold call script for insurance agents

People fear being sold insurance. Offer a review of what they already have and let gaps do the selling.

The scenario

The script

You call a small-business owner to offer a no-cost review of their current coverage.

YouHi Mr. Bianchi, it's Sara from [your company] Assicurazioni. I'm not calling to sell you a policy — I do free coverage reviews for local businesses and I noticed yours may be underinsured for the new premises. Two minutes?
ProspectI think we're covered fine, honestly.
YouYou might be — most people are 80% right and 20% exposed. Quick check: when you took on the second unit, did you update the property and liability limits?
ProspectHmm. I'm not actually sure we did.
YouThat's the exact gap I'd want to close before something happens, not after. I can review your current policy in 20 minutes and just flag the holes — you keep your provider if you want.
ProspectAlright, a review can't hurt.
YouGreat — send me your current schedule and I'll come back Thursday with the gaps in plain terms, no jargon.
ProspectOkay, I'll dig it out.

Make it land

  • Disarm early — 'I'm not calling to sell you a policy' lowers the guard.
  • Use a specific trigger event (new premises, a new vehicle) to justify the review.
  • Let the gap sell — ask a question that exposes a real exposure.
  • Offer to keep their current provider; you're the advisor, not the switcher.

If they push back

'We already have an agent.' — 'Good — a second set of eyes is free and finds what a familiar one misses. If everything's tight, I'll tell you so.'
